That's true, but it mostly involves pubs, so I think you'll cope...

Sat: Arrive, gentle pub crawl.
Sun: Race, after-race celebrations at pub.
Mon: Rest, then pub.
Tue: Drive around a bit, find pub.
Wed: Drive to west coast; find pub.
Thur: Cruise, onboard floating pub, then land-based pub for dinner.
Fri: Drive back to Hobart; sit in airport bar until flight home.

Pretty cruisy, eh?

Hi All, I came across this when I was searching for an appropriate image for our 2011 P2P work team sign, I'm based in Hobart, I have completed the P2P twice, with a huge sense of achievement on completion! Phase 1... place P2P sign up, Phase 2... get motivated to train!, Phase 3... motivate others... still struggling with Phase 2 & 3 at the moment! Anyway hope to see you there!

Welcome TS. Three P2P virgins heading your way. Any tips/ pointers greatfully received. Doing a bit of hill work of course. My main concern is clothing. Presume this starts warm and ends a bit nippy? Rucksack needed? If so it would be good to train with one.

Many thanks for stopping by!

When I did this 5 years ago it started out warm but at the pinnacle was 0 degrees, sleeting and with a wind chill of -10C. Not pleasant.

Even so, it's hard enough work that I didn't feel the need to carry a pack, even if you're walking (which I was on that occasion). The organisers recommend you carry one though, I notice.

With Crazy_One and Tasmanian_Swifty (welcome!) on board, we'll have seven runners represented this year.

Sounds like a party!

Party

The organisers provide this service at the starting line for runners/ walkers to collect at the finish. As long as you don't place valuables on-board your gear should be safe! In saying that though a lot of participants run/ walk with a backpack.

As for training, I'm not the right person to ask... I complete (not compete!) this course for "FUN" and had one of my first jogs since the last P2P yesterday and it feels like I have daggers stuck in my legs! I simply try to do a few 5 or 10km jogs a week. However, if you can, I'd advise to try to train with hill work... the second half of the course is hard part!!

Fantastic that you are keen to come to our corner of the world for this great event... where are you all located?

Cheers Swifty

Will the guys stand out in the crowd?? Do they run in a "team top", if so let us know and I'll try to say hello after the event.
I will check my messages before I head out tomorrow morning 7am (local time). Cheers!

There may well be some exclusive RunningCommentary merchandise on display, yes. I'll let them know you've been asking. I'm sure a meet can be sorted.

RE: Point to Pinnacle 2011 - Sweder - 19-11-2011

Hey Taz, yes black shirts with a big purple foot on the back! Look forward to meeting you at the finish. We're slower runners so up the top at around 10:45 or so. If not there see you at the munch tables at base camp.

Also have 2 walkers (1 in a RC shirt) expected up top around 10:15- 10:30 or so.
Run well and enjoy!

RE: Point to Pinnacle 2011 - ladyrunner - 19-11-2011

Good luck guys on your race in the morning ...... I will be thinking of you whilst I am dreaming on the other side of the world.

How do you think the weather conditions are going to be during the race?? Extremely cold or hot??

Julie Big Grin

RE: Point to Pinnacle 2011 - Tasmanian_Swifty - 19-11-2011

Weather is fantastic! A nice clear day, can see the top of the mountain from where I am sitting now, if anything, it is likely to be warmer than the last couple of years! See you guys at the top, or back down at the Point! GOOD LUCK!

Re-hydration on hold whilst two successful P2P conquerers knuckle down to satisfy member's thirst for knowledge...

Impressive stuff I'm sure y'all agree.

Crikey. So that's how he does it. You can see those electric metaphors exploding in the @sweder brain and zipping trough his hovering fingers.

RE: Point to Pinnacle 2011 - Sweder - 20-11-2011

I'm back there now in the pre-dawn, hammering the keyboard as one would an old manualy typewriter as Hobart's brow furrows yet again. This place has more weather in a few hours than most cities see in a decade.
