Yes SW, a great result particularly considering that you carried an injury for most of the race, but still a great result anyway considering all the respiratory problems that almost prevented you getting to the line. And anyway, just a great result anyway! If you were doing so well, on a restricted training programme... surely you'll be up for another attempt next year...?

Congratulations to everybody who ran the Brighton Marathon. It sounds like you all had a good day and the combination of sun, sea and great support provided a winning formula.

Congratulations from me too. With London being so ridiculously difficult to get into, sounds like there's a perfect alternative just up the road.

Great effort everyone!

Well, maybe not perfect, but at least you have the opportunity to paddle afterwards! Has anyone done the early entry to London? I sent mine in last week, it appears they are scrapping the automatic entry after 5 rejections. I'd really like to do it in 2012 in honour of my 60th - if I'm still standing.

Yep, done mine already too. 2012 will be my 6th attempt, so I should be assured of a place.

Failing that I'll just have to qualify for the Olympics...

That same afternoon I was on Worthing beach, and caught sight of a dog-walking guy with a finisher's medal. I congratulated him and we got chatting. He explained how hot he found it, and how he had to stop for a St John's massage after 21 miles. He had my total empathy, right up until the moment he told me he'd blown up and finished in 3:11

He did mention the run up to the power station though, and also likened it to Docklands, which Dan also mentions in his excellent report. Apparently there was a banner up around there announcing Welcome To Hell.

The organisers have already posted some proposed improvements for next year. Obviously it's a PR exercise to a certain extent, but at least they are showing they're keen to listen.

No proposal to to flatten all the city's cambers as yet though...
