2006 - May - El Gordo - 19-05-2006

Things are looking up, thanks SW.

The shingles are on their way out, but still pretty uncomfortable. I'm ibuprofemmed up to the hilt, which seems to help. Hope to get back to running soon, though not looking forward to those first couple of outings.

On the job front, things are looking positive. I've got a couple of promising irons in the fire, but won't tempt fate by saying more at this stage. I'll know more next week, and will update you.

Cheers.

Good news Andy Smile
Now, get up to running speed ASAP and get your old bones down to Sussex one of these Sundays . . .

2006 - May - El Gordo - 24-05-2006

Just an update.

First, just wanted to say thanks for all the good wishes -- both on and off forum. As you know, I've not been too well recently but am definitely getting better now.

On the job front, good news. I think I've got myself sorted. In one of those crazy ironies, I think I might be better off than I was before.

Just really wanted to say thanks for all the news about what people are doing. Even if I don't reply to all the threads, I read every post, and it's made a big difference to me to hear what people are up to. Some of the recent races and tales, and the way they've been written about, have been fantastic. Totally inspirational. Thank you.

You've kept me in touch, and I really do appreciate that.

I've stopped aching, and am now merely itching, which I think has to be progress. All being well, I may even manage a plod at the weekend.

That's it really.

If you hear some ghostly footsteps behind you over the next few days, well, that'll be me.

Cheers everyone,

Andy

. . . and thanks to everyone who visited healandy.com and rubbed their cursor over his shingles; all hail the power of the net.

I'm glad to hear all things Andy-related are looking brighter.

I've got tendonitis in my ankle - ironically it's my right ankle. I say ironically, because a few years back I broke my left ankle playing rugby. Or, rather, I broke both the Tibia and Fibula, ruptured my achilles tendon and dislocated my ankle. It wasn't the greatest moment of my sporting life. Now, I plod round 26 miles, without realising I'm ever so slightly favouring it all the way, and hurt the right one!

So, it's paying physio's bills. I mean, turn up at your GP's and tell him you get through 40 cigarettes a day, stopping only to down bottles of Domestos and mainline the dodgiest smack South London can manage, and you get a hospital referral straightaway. Tell him you've started to look after yourself, but as a result of the running which has kept you out of his surgery for the last year, you've got a bit of a sore ankle, and he looks at you like you've asked to give the receptionist one.

Sorry, five minutes of injury and I seem to have turned into Norman Tebbitt. What a horrible thought...

Shouldn't you watching the footie Mick?

Hang on, shouldn't I be watching it...? Eek

Must dash.

Half-time nip to the forum.
Thought you might have popped in to watch this one as its on your doorstep, Andy.

Lennon looked sharp in he first 15 minutes, but where'd he go after that?
Oh, I know - the Belarus players found out he was made of rice-paper and started blowing on him every time he got the ball. A little simplistic perhaps, but that (the visitors' increased physicality) seemed to change the shape of the first half.

I know what you mean, Mick.
Whenever I got to the Quack he asks me
'So, what do you expect from me?'
Err . . . medical advice?
A prescription for methadone, or at least some Black Bombers?
Something to stop me feeling like shite?
Or maybe an offer to give the receptionist one (ugh - I've just realised all our receptionists are past retirement age . . . Eek ). Why is it our GPs manage to make us feel like charlatans and mischievous rogues every time we darken their door?

The Chingford Skinhead . . . in his pomp made the politicians we're left with these days look like lily-livered windbags. At least the man had conviction (or was that convictions?).

Right - second half.
Lets see if the tadpole gets on.
