On the dangers of running - The Beast of Bevendean - 23-12-2010 In the spirit of the festive period, I spent some time looking at some of the more unusual running related conditions documented in the medical databases. For the men in this community, I offer you the following (why do doctors refer to us as joggers...very annoying): Adno J. 'Jogger's testicles' in marathon runners. S Afr Med J. 1984 Jun 30;65(26):1036. Myhre U, Goode PN, Miller IA. Jogger's phimosis. Br J Urol. 1989 May;63(5):549. Hershkowitz M. Penile frostbite, an unforeseen hazard of jogging. N Engl J Med. 1977 Jan 20;296(3):178. Compliments of the season RE: On the dangers of running - marathondan - 24-12-2010 Thanks for that, Tom. Put me right off me chestnuts and pigs in blankets! Just back from a sub-zero Christmas Eve jaunt - but everything still seems to be present and correct. In fact, the famous words of the late Brian Hanrahan spring to mind... Merry Christmas all! RE: On the dangers of running - Sweder - 25-12-2010 I slipped out for a traditional Yuletide Plod and very nearly ran into Penile Frostbite. I concur with Hershkowitz; it was certainly unexpected, as was the soul-chilling wind slicing out of the west. Of more concern was the polished glass covering on the well-trod footpaths. Only the relatively un-touched frost-coated snow offered sure footing. Hmm. I guess I should blog about it really (reaches for another slug of Mimosa, nearly misses, grabs it on the way back). Seasons greetings one and all : ) Hic! |
