Upgrading forum - El Gordo - 06-11-2013 Need to do an upgrade. Nothing very exciting. Forum might be down for an hour or so. RE: Upgrading forum - Sweder - 08-11-2013 Cool. Will we lose links hidden in posts, d'you know? Not pushing, just curious. RE: Upgrading forum - El Gordo - 09-11-2013 (08-11-2013, 01:32 PM)Sweder Wrote: Cool. Will we lose links hidden in posts, d'you know? Er, not sure I understand..... "links hidden in posts"? RE: - Sweder - 09-11-2013 Last update I lost all my links to other pieces ... such as 'retrospective' collection Urls within posts RE: Upgrading forum - El Gordo - 09-11-2013 Oh, I didn't realise. Or if you told me, I must have forgotten. Sorry. If you can be bothered, give me an example and I'll have a poke around. RE: Upgrading forum - marathondan - 09-11-2013 EG, the "Reply" button doesn't seem to be automatically quoting the text of the previous post. I'm sure it used to... RE: Upgrading forum - Sweder - 09-11-2013 Please don't bust a gut on this. Here's the page I referred to. The urls return 'this page does not exist'. It's occurred in a few other cross-reference links, too (can't remember where). Some image files have dropped off, too. Again, no biggie, but might simply be a switch needs flicking. (I have no idea what any of this entails!) RE: Upgrading forum - Mid Life Crisis Marathon Man - 11-11-2013 Yes, the "Reply" option no longer automatically quotes the forum post you're replying too... most annoying. Also your front page blog has doubled up for some reason. RE: Upgrading forum - Sweder - 11-11-2013 Quote:Yes, the "Reply" option no longer automatically quotes the forum post you're replying too... most annoying. I don't mind losing the quoted text in replies, especially when it's not edited and you get a complete duplicate of the previous post. Easy enough to copy and paste an excerpt from the previous post, I guess. RE: Upgrading forum - Mid Life Crisis Marathon Man - 11-11-2013 Perhaps I just don't like change. RE: - marathondan - 11-11-2013 Well my guess is that functionality isn't meant to have disappeared. Otherwise there would be no need for both the "reply" and "new reply" buttons. RE: - Mid Life Crisis Marathon Man - 11-11-2013 Agreed. Definitely logical. Well put, Dan. RE: - El Gordo - 11-11-2013 OK. well it appears that there is now a separate quote button. Not very prominent, but it's that little one with the green plus sign, third from the right in the row of buttons. You click that and then "reply". Right, well that post was written in 2007, which I suppose was before we moved from vBulletin to myBB. So in other words the links you included in that post are, or were, the links on the old forum which no longer exist. Links you create now, or in recent years in fact, should work. But it raises a good point. I've occasionally considered changing again as I'm not a big myBB fan. But if we changed, we would lose more links. I can go back and restore them (I plan to re-visit/ edit a few older pieces anyway). Something I occasionally do when I've raised a fascinating point on my forum, and lots of people have commented on it. No, seriously.
