Upgrading forum software - El Gordo - 18-11-2014

I'm upgrading the forum software this evening, Tuesday -- about 8pm UK time -- so be warned. If you're in the middle of uploading a lengthy confessional to the forum anytime during the England-Scotland game, it may never appear. This may or may not be a good thing, but be aware in any case.

Things look OK, but I'm getting some automated error messages being mailed to me, so something weird might be happening underneath.

Let me know if you spot anything untoward.

Something a bit weird is happening.

There is a craic in the space time continuum.

Is that good or bad?

OK, I think I'm back to where we were before it all went a bit wrong.

I'm now thinking... should I have another go at upgrading i.e. the thing that made it go all wrong?

Yeah, why not.

RE: Upgrading forum software - El Gordo - 22-11-2014

OK, it's done.

I did think about moving to different forum software but I can't get a definitive answer about whether this will break the internal links like it did last time we moved. At the moment at least, it's not worth the risk. If you spot any problems.....

PS Apologies to Antonio and BB. I had you on my list of people to email but somehow you got left off the thing i sent out. If you were unaware of the recent downtime, then we have insulted each other equally, and it's all square.

Time to stop wittering.

OK - a problem.

If I try to edit or create a new post.... I can't.

RE: Upgrading forum software - El Gordo - 23-11-2014

GAH!!!!!!

RE: Upgrading forum software - Sweder - 23-11-2014

Must say it looks rather fresh in here. I do like the curtains.

So replies are possible here (text box under the post), but not by the New Reply button, or the New Thread

RE: Upgrading forum software - El Gordo - 23-11-2014

Need to shut down the forum at 10.30 UK time to try fixing some problems.

RE: Upgrading forum software - El Gordo - 23-11-2014

OK - I have (yet again) gone back to the earlier version and will still with this for a while.

RE: Upgrading forum software - marathondan - 23-11-2014

Thanks for your efforts, EG. Great to have the forum back online. Just in case I do any running in the near future.

I'm still getting some SQL errors emailed to me by the system though at the moment these don't seem critical. But it means I should probably try again to upgrade. I'll do nothing for a few days though. Perhaps next weekend.

I don't seem to be able to insert photos or make attachements. May have to resort to snail mail!

Scrap that ... I can attach photos, just not very big ones. But I can't format text.

Cute photo of owls attached for your amusement.

RE: Upgrading forum software - marathondan - 24-11-2014

You can do formatting if you don't mind typing in the codes yourself - see here: http://www.bbcode.org/reference.php

Nice owls btw.

RE: Upgrading forum software - Sweder - 24-11-2014

Owls. What a hoot.

RE: Upgrading forum software - Charliecat5 - 24-11-2014

I am pleased that the forum is back up and running.

I really didn't want to be owl by myself. Big Grin

RE: Upgrading forum software - El Gordo - 24-11-2014

Hmm, OK, well I'm winging it a bit here but I may finally have arrived at yet another unknown destination. Been in a flap for an hour or so trying to upgrade again, but might at last have got there.

Yes, it looks a bit weird.

Yes, not all is fixed, but give it a go.

Thanks.
