Connemarathon here I come, feeling the fear - Katy.a - 14-03-2009

I hesitate to say this, but am almost enjoying running at the moment - now fit enough not to feel the pain while running the reducing miles during tapering and fresh enough to want to run.

This leaves my mind free of thoughts of the 'O-the-pain-will-I-ever-reach-the-end-of-this-run' variety and available to think other things. I have come to the conclusion that the key to running a successful marathon, (given that you've done the necessary mileage, be it at Olympic or amateur pace) is all in the mind. From personal observation, for me, nothing seems to work so effectively as pre-occupation with a dramatic (but temporary, non-fatal) family crisis. It seems I have no shortage of those at the moment, so I should be zipping along nicely come the 22. It gets the adrenalin pumping nicely and while trying to fathom out the problems I don't notice the miles....

Now at the stage where I am compulsively checking the forecast, which being Ireland, changes every day. Currently 7 degrees, 'Realfeel' -4 and wet - oh great.

Nearly there....
