On the subject of impending gigs one or two noteworthy happenings in my local parrish. Sadly the excellent Lewes Guitar Festival went the way of all flesh this year thanks to lack of funds; we're hoping it'll return in 2009.
Meanwhile the Lewes Folk Rock Festival is set to continue a-pace.
Held on the 16th and 17th of May at the All saints Centre in the town the gathering will include
Baka Beyond, a group with a unique sound honed during time spent with the Baka pygmies of Southern Africa and enhanced by the presence of a Breton fiddler. Headlining on Friday will be
Sheelanagig, a 'high-octane blend of flute, fiddle and gypsy mania well known for their blistering live show.'
Elsewhere May sees the arrival of a number of acts that might appeal to one or two folk around these here virtual parts. Here's some 'what's on' highlights:

Henry Brothers, identical twins playing bluegrass. Oh Brother Wheer Art Thou? Right next to you on this here stage, brother! Conservative Club, £3 for non-members

Dana and Susan, a rootsy US string-plucking couple in the spirit of Woody Guthrie. Folk at the Royal Oak, £5
Saturday 17th
In Bob We Trust, a classy seven piece combo interpreting a wide variety of Dylans' music. Royal Oak £7 on the door
Saturday 31st
Leonard and Bubba's Delicious Googoo Cluster. 'Warped offensive trailer-trash hillbilly thrash' apparently. Landsdown pub, free admission. No doubt.
If all this sounds like a gratuitous attenmpt to lure people into pubs you'd be right. Of course there's a good deal of fun to be had along the way . . .
