RE: Brighton 10K, 2009
Claire left it too late and didn't get in.
She will however, be on the finishing line to dispense coffee and chips etc... Oh and a kiss to the winner of the SP v EG showdown. (Although I'm not so confident now after his superb 8 miler today ).

Nothing's been arranged AFAIK. Depend who comes out of the woodwork following your initial post.
There are plenty of other eateries if we want to wing it. Looks like a smaller party this year so that'll be easier.

RE: Brighton 10K, 2009
I think Ladyrunner might be coming along depending on local youth footie fixtures. Alfresco is always wide open after the race - fills up from around 12:30 or so. You should be fine to walk in and grab a table. I'm 90% sure I'll be off in other parts that weekend - shame as I'd very much like to have witnessed the Chariots-of-Fire moment, the head back, flecked sweat slomo dash for the line ... I will, as the popular cry has it, have to read all about it.
As an aside on Almeria heard from Steve Sheekey tonight that he and 'others' are working on Almeria. They're thinking of direct flights - that's out Friday back on the Monday - and may be including WAGS. Will post more details as and when known.

Do count me in, and have never been to Al Fresco, so would be quite keen to go there. Do they have showers? If not, you may have to munch your linguine amid the old-badger smell I emit post-run.

'Old Badger' - could be onto something there Tom.
Can't be any worse than Old Spice ...
No, no showers I'm afraid. There again we're all in the same olfactory boat post-race so it's only the WAGS and the waiters who suffer.

LC CDs! Fantastic. We can have a sing-song after lunch.

Suzanne takes you down
To her place beside the river
Etc etc
Al Fresco sounds fine, has the weight of tradition behind it, central, easy to find.
Off to register the domains OldBadger.com and SussexSmells.com. This could be the change of career direction that's eluded me for so long.

I usually don't hear re. the football fixture until Friday night. Please post the finalised details and I'll confirm by Saturday if I can make it along for a spot of lunch.
But if the weather forecast is good I am planning on heading off for a weekend away in my van so won't be around .
Good luck all for your 10k .

RE: Brighton 10K, 2009
Two days to go. Weather forecast suggests mild, rainy conditions and SW wind, what a surprise, gusting up to 35mph.
As a diversion from looking at this afternoon's card at Cheltenham, I shall ask my bookie what they're offering on the El Gordo/Seafront Plodder contest. Not sure what the value bet is here.
I'll be wearing a Seaford Striders vest and looking unfit. If I don't see forum comrades during the race, I shall make my way to Al Fresco at the end. I shall be carrying a copy of the Observer, whistling Leonard Cohen tunes, and if I say to you, 'there will be rain in Shropshire this afternoon', reply 'good for the crops'.
I see their web site offers 'majestic seas and ferocious winds'.

RE: Brighton 10K, 2009
Good plan, Tom. I'll PM you my phone number.
SP/Claire - Are you up for a spot of celebratory luncheon at Al Fresco?
Who else? Nigel I hope... possibly even Sweder it seems, ideally with family in tow. M should be around too.
There's a host of Brighton runners who call in here sometimes whom I've not yet met. Please do join us at Al Fresco, along the seafront about 10 mins walk from the finish. The food is excellent and the vista without parallel if you like looking at the sea. Which, living in Berkshire, I do.
As for timing, we will have to wait a while for SP to finish, and people may need to re-park their cars or change clothes, so no need to kill ourselves getting to the restaurant. Let's aim for about 12-12:15?
If I can't find a pink carnation, I will rely on my trusty yellow V-team cap to help you recognise me.

Claire'll be there to take a few pics of me finishing, going off to have a leisurely coffee, before returning to capture EG staggering over the line, but not sure about Al Fresco though at the moment - childcare duties and stuff to arrange.
I hope Sweder does turn up, as he can accept the JDRF donation and that'll save EG a stamp.

Best of luck on Sunday, amigos.
Enjoy the beautiful view from the seafront and the fantastic Italian meal at Al Fresco.
