Running on the radio
Engaging in some displacement activity to put off the start of my Sunday run on a wet dark November afternoon, I found Radio 3's The Essay from last week. Robert MacFarlane talks in five fifteen-minute episodes about a journey along the South Downs from west to east. It's required listening for anyone who runs in this part of the world.
I wrote a blog entry, but cut out the middleman and go straight to the iPlayer (first episode runs out tomorrow, so be quick).

Managed to catch first episode just now in between weeping softly over the Rowdies team news from Stamford Bridge and prepping the Sunday roast veg. This is high quality downland prose; catch it if you can.

The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph

Listened to the first one, and enjoyed the wistful tone and wordsmithery. Will catch the others over the next day or two.

Sweder -- to answer your tweet, no I don't know a way of recording a Listen Again programme. Could have done it if I'd known in advance.
El Gordo

Great things are done when men and mountains meet.

Audacity will record streaming audio (as well as being a nifty audio editor), as I'm sure will other free audio software. A while back I bought the ridiculously cheap RIP Vinyl for ripping cassettes, which also does the job nicely and has the added benefit of automatically stopping at the end of the programme.

I have recorded it all with Audio Hijack Pro, from the splendidly named company Rogue Amoeba
But El Gordo would find himself limited to running round the exercise yard at HMP Pentonville if we put them up here.
