2010, February -> The clifftop path
Sorry for the recent silence.

I'll explain this in more floral language shortly in the main blog, but I've had another setback. After Almeria I decided to do no running for 2 weeks. Finally went out yesterday feeling unfit and a few pounds heavier, but was surprised at how easily I was moving. Then just after 2 miles, the damn calf went again. Just seized up, and I had to limp home the last 1.5 miles.

The plan had been to tackle the core training as well as doing 2 or 3 short runs a week. I started the exercises in earnest a couple of days ago, and yesterday was to be the first of the regular shorties.

That plan has to be rewritten again. It looks like I'll have to lay off the running completely (unless I find the treadmill easier on the calf) and major on the stretching and exercising and spin classes. My plan was to invert that format, with the exercises and gym work playing a supporting role to the steady outdoor running.

So the news is not good, but I'm actually feeling a lot better about it today than I was yesterday.

I've also been doing some techie work on the site too, which I'll reveal/talk about very soon.

sorry about the calf El G :-( When it's feeling better you could maybe sneak on to the treadmill whilst you are at the gym and try it out, at least you will be a ble to stop at the first twinge and won't have far to limp. I'm curious about the techie stuff.
Phew this is hard work !

Sorry to hear about the calf injury again EG. I think it is catching as mine went on me on Saturday at the Cross-Country. I did a 2 mile warm-up, then we were delayed on the start line for about 10 minutes wearing just shorts and vest then 400m into the race my left calf started to hurt and I had to drop out by 800m.

Rested for a couple of days then tried to run on it yesterday and only managed 1.5 miles before it was really stiff again. Decided to switch to walking to see how that was and it seemed fine to walk on. Ended up doing 8.7 miles speed walking in Stanmer Park in 1hr 53 mins.

Calf feeling much better today but will have a week or so off running. Will have a go at walking round the parkrun on Saturday. Glutes are really sore today from the walking excerise - must be a good excerise to trim down the bottom and hips.

Oh dear, sorry to hear that, LR. If you've no history of injury in that area, you should be OK with a bit of rest. You'll know what to do. Get well soon!
