Moyleman 2017
The Moyleman: 2017 Edition
Plans are in place* for the 2017 Moyleman
We have 300 confirmed entrants; 200 full marathon, 50 teams of 2 running half each
Running numbers are being mailed as we speak, to land on doormats w/c 27th February
Finishers' momentos are ordered, caterers & EMS teams booked, entries long closed
*coming together
Brian Courage is running the full distance, OATR is running half as part of a team, as is Moylebird.
CharlieCat, Tom Roper and myself will be herding cats and pulling pints whilst Martin P Porter will join Ollie and Co on the Bike team
Seafront Plodder is in charge of Bag Drop and might lend a hand dishing out ale at the finish.
We have a small but growing army of perfectly-formed marshals.
There's a bespoke coffee wagon at the start and finish, joined at Harveys Yard by a mobile pizza oven and Harveys ale.
CC5, OATR and I are meandering along the second half this Saturday morning (tomorrow ATOP) to check the route.
BTW, very best of luck to our Chief of Marshals, Tom Roper, who is taking on the Brighton Half this weekend.
Tom is running for The Stroke Association. Read his training diary, or cut to the chase and sponsor the man.
All we need now is a fair wind and an absence of torrential rain in the week beforehand and we'll be good to go.

Hiya,
I'm only doing the second half this year - my daughter's doing the first. I'm training for Brighton marathon (which will be boring compared to Moyleman, but thought I'd better do a road marathon). My legs feel completely battered from high mileage so I won't be going fast tomorrow!

RE: Moyleman 2017
This is something we’re really quite proud of.
The first proper year of the Moyleman cost us money. All the Moyleman Committee funded it to an extent, but Ash and I put quite a bit of dosh in to make it work. However, as numbers have grown over the last couple of years we have made a surplus, and this year our account is looking pretty healthy.
We need to keep a float ready for next year, but it has been agreed by the Moyleman Committee that we’ll give the rest (a tidy £5,000) to Martlets Hospice who looked after Chris so well when he was ill.
As is fitting for the Moyleman, we are going to hand over this cheque at the top of a hill (Firle carpark at the top of the Borstal) on the 15th July, probably at noon. We’ll be inviting runners, marshals, supporters to join us… and will announce the date of next year’s run while we’re at it.
We only ever set out to put on proper trail run, for runners by runners… so we love the idea that our surplus funds are going to charity. It is keeping with the whole ethos of what this race is about.

Great work, everyone! That's a fantastic effort, a fitting tribute and a very worthy cause. Very well done.

That's a fantastic piece of news, Charliecat5!
Looking forward to taking part in next year's race.Felipe and Antonio G. are also travelling there as a homage to Chris. We're sure we're going to have a wonderful time with so many friends from the area and although the course will be tough, the rewards at the finish line will help us manage to finish it.

RE: Moyleman 2017
Yes, as Duncan says, we're pretty chuffed that we've got to this stage.
It was all supposed to be a bit of fun, it was never about making money.
It was, however, all about drinking beer.
Ooh. Beer. We should make sure we get some Harveys Wharf IPA to take up with us
I have plenty of pint glasses (that we can hand out to those present).
Happy days!
