London Marathon
Hi guys

Not checked in for a while as I've been struggling with training for the big one on 17th April. A triumpant 20 mile race in Wymondham on 6th March (2:34, a full 6 mins inside my 'dream time') has been followed by another superb week of training. Then, as soon as I return home to Fuerte I'm struck down with a throat infection which stopped me running for over a week and now I'm gingerly getting back to things along with a residue tightness in my throat. Felt quite ill after 20 mile training run on Monday. Desperate to throw in some speed work, but can't yet.

Anyone else wish they could move it back a month? Maybe I should ask? I'm feeling like my aim of a 3:30 debut marathon is slipping from my grasp. Two and a half weeks now...

Good to see you back, JP.

Ignore Sweder's overconfidence. He's a freak. If you're not feeling paranoid about the marathon there's REALLY something wrong with you... Amazing how many people get colds and bad throats just before the big race.

I'm sure you'll be OK. At this stage of the game, there's not a whole lot you can do. Your Wymondham run shows that you've done the training. Missing a week is not a big deal. Some would say it's positively useful.

Hello JP.
I reckon you'll be right as rain come the big day.
Your training seems to have gone about as well as (if not better than) everyone else here - great February, shocking March (or in your case, second half). Still, your recent times are excellent, and barring major mishaps I think you'll be Johnny On The Spot for a 3:30 debut.

And yes, I am a freak. Though not a terribly quick one compared to some. I just love hills. Andy is also right about the 'enforced' rest - it could be a blessing in disguise.

The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph

Thanks Andy & Sweder

Need some reassurance at the moment. I am having to take it easy even now, as the tightness in my throat just won't disappear. I have to do something, but can't do too much. Oh shut up JP. Anyway, thanks!

I hope you get better soon, JP, and can enjoy training in Fuerteventura. Perhaps you can go for a swim after a run, which is very good to avoid colds and for your muscles.

You shouldn´t get too obsessed with the time you finish your first marathon. I think you´d better enjoy it and finish eager to take part in another one.

Best of luck!

Feel free to check out my fundraising webpage at http://www.justgiving.com/jpfuerte

I'm sorry to say there is a photo of me (ugh!) but I'm with my Mum (aaah), who is the reason I'm doing this marathon business. No obligation of course, just take a glance if you want to know more.

Cheers for all your supportive comments. I'll keep you informed of progress.

JP
