Sweder Wrote:But did you see the match between Sri Lanka and India? What's the story with this Malinga character? He's a chucker, pure and simple, right? It's like the emperor's new clothes - no-one seems to notice that he runs in and slings the ball like a baseball pitcher.

Haven't seen him in anger yet. What with the local cricket, SA -v- Pakistan and the monster truck finals Eek Fox have declined to show the SL -v- India series here. Pity. It would have been another nice excuse to visit the local sports bar Rolleyes

I see however that Malinga got walloped for 75 runs off his 10 overs in their last game. Sounds like he's a bit erratic. I'll keep my eyes peeled for a chucking action when I eventually see him... which probably won't be until the World Cup.

I'm impressed you think so highly of Ponting. I can see his local club cricket ground from my house here. A genuine local boy made good. Not too many test cricketers come out of Tasmania. Uh, I'd be struggling to name 5:

Ricky Ponting
David Boon
Greg Campbell (Ponting's uncle, played only a handful of tests)
Roger Woolley (wicket-keeper for a while after Rod Marsh retired).

Um... said I'd struggle. But what a class act in Ponting and Boon, eh?!

Strictly speaking, Colin "Funky" Miller was a Tasmanian test player, as he was playing for the state when he was selected for the national side, but he wasn't born here. Still, if you can claim Pietersen as an Englishman, i guess we can claim Miller Smile
Run. Just run.

As you might imagine the office was a-buzz with talk of the series win yesterday. I conducted a swift straw poll on the best player in the world at the moment. Unanimous result: Ponting.

The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph
