Hi John,

Get yourself to a sports physio who will show you how to tape the knee cap in place to minimise the pain, as well as some stretching and strengthening exercises to build up the muscles above and around the knee.

Ibuprofen (Neurofen) will help as well.

But you'll need to also work out if the problem is caused by over-use and/or physiological problems. If it persists, you might need to visit a podiatrist and get some orthotics. A good sports physio will help you sort that out.
