I have a river like that round here. When the tide is right you can start at the sea, sit in your kayak and just steer a bit, and be taken to the best pub in the northern hemisphere...

Some pints later (whilst waiting for the tide to change), you wobble back down to the coast whilst trying to avoid the banks which have a habit of jumping out at you.
