Deer on the Downs
Just got home from a 2hr plus run with Mr F, Chappers and co. and whilst myself and Mr F were steadily plodding up a hill I happened to spot 2 deer in the distance on the horizon watching us cautiously.

We stopped for a few minutes to try and get a photo on my phone camera (which did not come out well because of the light).

This is only the 3rd time in 20 years of running on the Downs that I have spotted deer up there. My question is what about you guys have you spotted them before on the South Downs??

I see loads of Deer around Horsham but few on the downs. I think they like the cover that trees provide. We get albino deer in West Sussex. Very spooky if you see them at dawn or dusk!

Never...would have thought the lack of cover would make it unattractive for them. Fallow? Muntjac?
Once saw a hare about five metres away on top of the big W. It didn't seem to notice me until I was on top of it, odd because they're usually very shy

Lots of muntjac deer where I am, in Berkshire. Most seem to be in the grounds of a local manor house, but they occasionally escape and trot around the lanes. Once, one leapt through one hedge into the hedge on the other side of the lane i was on. It fair startled me. Saw one in my garden once. At the time, I thought that was exciting, though have since talked to people who complain that they wll eat all your flowers and plants if you don't frighten them off.

Very funny Sweder ... I see that you haven't lost your sense of humour in the hot weather.

Fallow type of deer.

There was no raindear on King George hill tonight.

Left home at 6:35pm and got back at 8:10pm. It's 5k warm up, 12x hill reps, 5k warm down and a few little chats along the way at the imaginery gates!!

How did the 5k go tonight ??

RE: Deer on the Downs
I'm reviving this post as today we spotted a group of 5 or 6 deer on the Downs at the start of the track from back to Sussex University to Black Cap.

Managed a get a fairly good photo from distance, but the closer you get to the deer the more nervous they become and head off in a hurry.... Especially when you do a nose diving tumble to the ground like me with camera in hand!! Shoulder and neck sore from it now, but no other injuries to reportRolleyes.
