Speaking of langwidge an' all...
Hey EG, did you ever start that Open Uni English Lit degree you were contemplating for this year?

I signed up for a couple of short taster courses, but quickly got fed up. Well, the courses were OK but the other students annoyed me. Plans for more punishment are on hold.

I've cleaned out all the PMs at the database level, and I don't seem to get the error message anymore.

testing a link
Is it my eyesight, or are the following links not showing their linkiness unless moused over?

Correctamundo EG.
I posted a link in yesterday's run report (!) and it appeared as normal text so I 'blinged it up' with bold & colour.
Looks reet dandy now ... ; )

RE: test
It ain't a big issue Boss. If I see www.etc in a post I invariably hover over it, whereupon it underlines itself.

A bigger issue (unless I'm missing it) (probably am) (still it ain't obvious) (if it's there at all) ( which I doubt) is the inability to 'mark all forums as read'.

p.s. Sweder, please don't click on the link in this post cos it's not really a link. Big Grin

Trouble is, I wanted to hyperlink a phrase that wasn't a web address. After seeing the result, I edited it put in the "http://www.etc" so that people would realise.

Right, I've added a link to the header, next to View New Posts etc.

RE: test
One more thing old Boy.

Every time I post a reply I forget to unsubscribe and receive a bloody annoying email saying some sod has replied. Angry

Any chance you can set the thread subscription facility below to default to 'do not subscribe'?

Any chance you can leave it as it is? I like getting those emails!

RE: test
Hmm, I didn't even know you get emails like that. I caould always just change the wording of the message so that instead of saying "some sod has replied", it could be "someone has replied". Would that help?

Otherwise, I could create a new group called something like "Annoying people", and everyone in that group has them turned off by default. I'll take a look.

Actually, these requests are good as it's forcing me to work out how to do things.

Ah. Went to link back to an old Hashing post via my retrospective page ... and the links are all down.

Not exactly a four alarm fire - I guess all I need to do is re-link them manually?

Yes, this is the one major thing that breaks when you migrate to new board software. Meant to mention it yesterday, when I checked your Twitter profile to see if you had a link to the RC forum -- you have, and should change it.

Sorry about this -- it also means that a lot of links in my posts are wrong. Won't bother changing them until the Drupal switch is made. (Some progress made on that last weekend. Am now up to March 2002 Big Grin)

Other thing -- I need to get better smilies/icons. I might just steal the old vbulletin ones we had.

No. As mentioned a while ago, the plan is to move all the RC content to Drupal, which is a content management system. As it happens, they do have a forum module, and the plan had been to move from the old forum software to the Drupal forum, but as I had to make the switch last week to avoid paying $100 I moved to this one. Now that we're here. I might just hang on to this one, while moving my RC entries to Drupal. There would be a link from Drupal to the forum (as there is in the current very very unfinished RC Drupal site at http://www.runningcommentary.net/new ).
