Frankly I'm appalled at the selectors indolence visa vis Bopara.
The man is clearly struggling with inner demons yet we insist on thrusting him into the fray. Sure as rotten eggs are rotten eggs he tries to force the issue only to end up waddling disconsolately off again having played a lame shot or left a straight one.
Apparently we have a wunderkind in Rashid.
No doubt we'll wait until the series is lost before exposing him to the world.
Sigh.

We're resigned to 7-0, but as Ponting - probably this week responsible for one of the finest run-outs ever seen in the history of ODIs - said, even a 7-0 shellacking won't make up fore the loss of the Little Urn.
Sad really, but there it is.
It's all Football, F1 shennanigans and Maradonna's earrings over here

It's true -- the one dayers are barely mentioned on the sports news. Not because we're losing (in fact, it's only the extent of the loss that's starting to raise the public awareness of the series), but because it's seen as pretty irrelevant, particularly now that the football season is in full swing. A real shame, I reckon, and poor organisation. Do people agree that this would have had a quite different profile if it had come before the Ashes series? As a starter before the main course, it would have really whet the appetite. As it is, it's just vanished into the shadow of the bigger contest.
If the wipe-out helps Ponting to keep his job, I'll regard that as something positive to come out of the ODI series. As mentioned earlier in the cricket chat, I don't understand why there's been some antipathy towards the man over here. I think he's a good bloke and a good cricketer.

Agreed EG - a prelude to the m main event would have made sense. This is very much after the Lord Mayors' Show; harsh in the Aussies who have been magnificent in their application and execution. Though Englands' performance in the longer game after such a public spanking might have been rather different ...
Ponting is arguably the finest cricketer of his generation. His irrascibility is an endearing feature. What some perceive as arrogance I see as qualities sadly lacking in the English ranks; self-belief and an expectation to succeed. I've no doubt he'll stay to guide this new breed to greater heights.
