Ah yes - a remarkable story well worth repeating!

My second ever race, and I'm still traumatised by the thought of the start.

BTW, don't be too puzzled if you click on 'monthly archive' and see what looks like a load of forum posts. They are forum posts, and are the fallout of my testing a script that imported the old forum into the Drupal forum. I decided to delete the Drupal forum, but interestingly, the posts are sitll regarded as pieces of content, and have not vanished. I will get round to deleting them.

RE: test
Do you think you'd do that again, EG? I can't help thinking that most of us would opt for the bench, Earl Grey and Observer these days.

I fear that this revamp is going to draw me into re-reading EG's diaries from the start. I just clicked through a couple of early tales from 2001, written under the obscure pseudonym "Andy" at the tender age of 44... fascinating stuff.

Sorry to labour the point, but this is very much just the first pass in the new look. The plan is to use Drupal to enable me to categorise things much more effectively e.g. a click will package up all race reports, or a subset (all marathons, or all races from 2004 etc), or all marathon training posts for a particular year etc. It's not difficult to do in Drupal. The slog is just transferring all the content over. Hard to automate, and more trouble than it's worth.

I would also like to include everyone else's stuff (with permission of course). There are some fantastic race reports and training tales on the forum, and it would be great to be able to click on a link and bring up everyone's marathon reports (for instance) all in one lump.

Apart from these content management changes, the appearance will be greatly smartened too, so don't wince too much at the template look at present.

I'll also keep the old site as an archive somewhere.

To answer the question. Do you mean would I bother starting the race if I was late? Hmm. Depends on how late. If I'd turned up 10 minutes late, I wouldn't have started. If you're a minute or two late, it's hard not to, especially if there are 'helpful' officials urging you to catch 'em up. Most races I do, despite being at the back, some hare-like athlete zips past me, presumably a late arrival trying to catch up.

Sorry, I was presuming you'd want the chance for revenge next year.

I'll change it.
