RE: Almeria 2010
Got my tale of woe via e-mail from Easyjet re: return flight cancellation this afternoon.
They confirmed a full refund available subject to my confirmation.

RE: Almeria 2010
Aye, received mine too. I've also had my confirmation about successfully entering the race.

Do we have final numbers and landing/departing locations now? We need to do something about vehicle hire. SP has confirmed that he won't be making the trip.

The other discussion yet to be had is the perennial one about venue of the post-race meal. Again, it largely depends on numbers.

I calculate that there are 6 of us travelling out together on the early Aer Lingus flight on Saturday morning.

Sweder/EG- Any more that you can think off. Jeremy and gang??

If there is only 6 of us do you think one people carrier vehicle rather than 2 small cars?? Last year we got some heavy insurance costs or taxes added to the quoted price of hire which could make 2 cars very expensive.

As for the after race meal, I'm happy with anywhere that serves chicken in addition to just seafood.

Would have thought a people carrier would do the job for 6 people admirably, Julie -- especially as (presumably) we'll all have hand luggage only.

RE: Almeria 2010
Yes, a people carrier would seem ideal. Whilst 2 vehicles is useful on the Monday if the party splits the additional fuel/ insurance costs are prohibitive. Regarding the post-match meal, as we're a smaller group this year does this open up the opportunity to revisit that smaller establishment along the seafront (where we enjoyed the delicious paella)? I'm sure they would be capable of rustling up some pollo ... but Antonio might have plans ...

Sweder and I have had the same email.

What a nuisance. Can't believe it.

I'm not sure whether the flight has been cancelled, or whether our bookings have been changed. I think this is important. If the flight has been cancelled completely, that's one thing. But if our bookings have been changed AFTER they confirmed them, and the flight is still going ahead, that is out of order.

As with the EJ alternative, we do not have to accept this rebooked flight if we make another arrangement.

Let me try calling them tomorrow morning (Saturday), and I'll report back then. After that, we'll look at our options.

Really annoyed about this.

At first sight it's not the worst that could happen. I'm as disgruntled as anyone at the though of having to leave Almeria at some ungodly hour on Tuesday morning but it does look like our options are whittling down to bugger all.

RE: Almeria 2010
Yeah, sorry, didn't get round to calling, and I also thought there was probably little point.

Our only option is to think about staying another day, but I guess that won't be practical/desirable?

Failing that, to change the arrangement entirely and go from another airport, but again, I suspect there's little appetite for that?

At the moment then, it looks like going along with the new time. Might put the kybosh on the drinking plans of the driver the night before...

We'll be OK Antonio. Just means getting up very early on Tuesday morning. There's always the upside of getting home at a reasonable hour that day. And as EG says it might mean we take things a little easier on Monday evening. Good news for the locals Big Grin

News from the London boys; they won't be coming this year. Steve's wife has a 'significant' birthday in early February and they're going to Italy to celebrate.
Jeremy has a work event that weekend so that's that. A smaller, yet somehow more cozy group this year then.

No worries, LR, I doubt if it would be convenient for any of us.

So.

Vehicle hire.

I'll take a look later today at what's available, and report back.

RE: Almeria 2010
Just checked last years vehicle hire and we used this company http://www.carjet.com/index.php
ESB22 Mercedes Vito 9st A/C
Which was much more spacious in the back than a Ford Galaxy of Opel Zafira.

We get 2 drivers included and can pay an extra 2 euros a day for a third driver.

I don't mind holding back with the alcohol on Monday night to do the drive back to the airport on Tuesday morning, but would like to try the mountain run this year if my legs are willing.

I will book my 7 seater car at one of the carparks at Gatwick. The Hove gang are going to come over for a lift and EG and Sweder are welcome to join us. Not much boot space but as we are all probably only taking hand lugguage there will be enough room for 6 adults. Let me know if you want to do this or book your own Gatwick car parking.

RE: Almeria 2010
http://www.malagacar.com/uk/car-hire/quote.php

are offering the Merc Vito 9 for £122 for 3 days, though that's a 9 seater.

Zafira is £106, Galaxy is £109. Both are 7 seaters, which I would have thought would do us nicely as we reckon there will be 6 of us. Or do we want the extra room of a 9 seater?

Carjet, the people you used last year are 162, 132, 116 respectively.

Unless anyone has a better idea, I think I'll give the first lot a call tomorrow and check the terms.

I don't mind being a named driver. Do we want to add another just in case? It doesn't seem too expensive.

Sweder - do you still have a SatNav that covers Spain?

RE: Almeria 2010
Thanks for checking this out EG. Sounds like a good deal.
Cost will probably be higher when fuel & 'other' insurance is thrown into the mix but sounds fair enough comapred with last year (we got hit with the same 'extras' at the airport in Murcia).

Yes my StaNav covers Spain - will bring it along.
Happy with the 9 seater; 7 in a 6 seater sounds OK but I'll bet it's a squeeze. Some of us are - ahem- on the large side ...
Also happy to be named driver as is LR I'm sure; if the cost's not too bad let's add both. Must remember to bring license (though paper version wasn't needed as I recall).

I talked to Encarna last Friday. Although she won´t be able to take part at the race, she wants to come to the meal with Pepe and probably Javier. We´re thinking about one place. As the group is not too big, I think we can just book the table and we can decide what to order at the restaurant.

As for the journey from Málaga, if I were you I´d come via, Loja. Granada and Guadix since it is only fifty or sixty kilometres more but it is along a motorway the whole course. If you aren´t in a hurry, you could have a look at the Alhambra in Granada from the outside and I´m sure you all will enjoy the landscape with the ranges of mountains with snow, the nature, etc. Then, on Tuesday you could go back to Málaga along the coast via Motril , which is shorter but the road is not a complete motorway. So, it may take you more or less the same amount of time.

Saludos

Antonio
