Almería half marathon. 30th January 2006
I´ve opened this new thread to give information on my hometown half marathon, which will be held on 30th January 2005. Apparently, Andy R.C. and Andy S.P. are interested in coming. I´m sure we´ll have a great time here and we´ll enjoy the race with its new course. If anyone else feels like coming, they will be welcome.

¡Fantástico, Nigel! It will be great to see you all here in Almería.
In 100 days we´ll be able to meet in the south-east of Spain and take part in the half marathon.

Wish I could make it, sounds like it's going to be great, but unfortunately "family things" to do. Damn.

I've attached flight times below and current prices. Note that It was £4.99 from Stansted to Ameria last week, and now it's £11.99. Still cheap, but getting less so. Can you afford to delay any longer?
(A shame that Gatwick flights to Almeria don't start until March 1st, but so be it.)
Antonio: I want to book our flights. Can you remind me what the schedule is? Is there anything on Saturday afternoon we need to do, like registering at an expo?
If not, we plan to arrive on the Saturday afternoon flight.
We won't return immediately incidentally. Will probably linger till Wednesday or Thursday, but don't worry, your cake, paella and taxi duties will cease after Sunday....
Cheers,
Andy

I have just noticed from the thread title that we seem to be discussing the run in 2006!
Far too far ahead to contemplate...

It´s incredible how prices go up so quickly!
You can pick your race number on Saturday afternoon until 9 o´clock just before the pasta dinner, which will be at the same place, at the new stadium. You can also pick it up on Sunday until 9.30 pm. You can enter the race on the internet for just 6 euros in the web
http://www.todofondo.com/medioalmeria/default.asp
but there seems to be a problem, so if you´re interested in this way, you´d better do it directly in
http://www.carreraspopulares.com/
On the top right, there´s a moving sing "RUN TICKET". You must press it and look for Medio maratón de Almería in INSCRIPCIÓN : GENERAL ( PARA TODOS )
ENTER : GENERAL ( FOR EVERYBODY ) . In the previous sections it is for Members of the university of Almería, policemen/firemen/women and military men or women. If you want to enter on line, please tell me so that I can translate the heading to fill in the form.
You can enter this way until 24th January 2005 but you can do it personally on Saturday for 9 euros instead of 6 euros. If you are subscribed to Runners´World, you may enter for only 6 euros although I´m not sure since I don´t know if it is only the Spanish edition. I can phone them and find out if any of you is interested.
If you decide to enter on Saturday, you can pick up your race number at the same time with the gifts, a T-shirt and other souvenirs. After the race, they will also give you something else.
If you want to book the hotel yourselves and need some advice, you can tell me the hotels you are interested in to tell you where they are and what they are like, etc.
It´s a pity that Yorkshire Plodder can come. We could have another race in the UK where we all could meet as well.
Good luck, everybody! ¡ Buena suerte a todos !

I´m sorry for 2006, S.P. I tried to change it but I didn´t manage. Anyway, you all know it is next year.
Bye for now

Almería half marathon. 30th January 2006
I´ve had a look at http://WWW.hotelplus.com and I´d stay at this hotel http://www.amtorreluz.com/ing/torreluz.htm
It is in the city centre and it is quite comfortable. It is about three kilometres from the stadium where the half marathon starts and finishes but I´d pick you up on Sunday morning to go there and I´d take you back after it.
It costs 50 euros a night a double room with the vouchers I´d get at a Travel agency. If you all are interested, please tell me to book it. If you find another one that you prefer and I can book it with any vouchers, you can also tell me.
Andy, if you intend to stay more days in Almería and you want to go somewhere else, I´d advise you to stay at Hotel Marina playa in Mojácar http://www.servigroup.es/ There´s a problem with this link.
http://www.alpharooms.com/mojacarhotels.aspx
It is quite new with a lot of facilites and near the seaside. Besides, it´s really cheap in the low season. I´ve telephoned to confirm the prices next year and I´ve been told that the double room per night at the end of January of February is :
Hotel + Breakfast Half Board Full board
51 euros 56,40 euros 62,40 euros
VAT included
If you want to hire a car, it is a good place to go for day trips.
Hasta pronto

I was think more along the lines of a bed & breakfast, or do they not exist in the low season?

There´s an old one which is just 25 euros the double room with a voucher but I don´t think it´s worth while spending there two nights. It´s called Hotel La Perla **

No I'm not really on a tight budget, I'm just a tightwad!
I agree that we 3 should try and stay at the same place, so lets see what Nigel has to say.

I think it's obscene that you guys can get to Almeria for those prices... I cannot seem to find anything at all from here.
Being a small business person these days i keep getting salespeople trying to get me to sign up for Visa cards here. The latest being a Spanair card. They seem surprised when I say that I'll take one when, and oly when Spanair decide to lay on flights from La Coruña airport.
I haven't given up the idea yet, let's see what happens with FLM this year.
