Wasn't that a Ray Stevens song? About the same duration too from memory. Or maybe it just seemed that way... Sad

A saluatory lesson in brevity there. Good to have you back.
Just bumped into your man Roy H on Richmond station. Presume he was on his way to Southwark Crown Court for the start of Arry's tax trial. Unless he's headed for the Pan to clock our brilliant under 18's v Bognor tonight.

Saw the Baggies lose 1-0 to Everton on New Year's Day. Really awful game. Not surprised Roy was banging his head against the dug-out. At least he didn't have to pay 40 quid for it!
You've got me looking out for Lewes FC's results anyway.

Don't look too hard this week. Hammered 5-1 away at Margate. Chas n Dave off the menu at HQ pre-match. Midweek v Eastbourne Borough (cup quarter final) and home to Canvey Island on Saturday (I'll be in Almeria so miss the match) in the league. Plenty of Dr Feelgood please Mr DJ! Lewes ladies (the Rookettes) won on Sunday, 4-1 away to Cambridge United. That's a 100% record (14/14), GD +82. 6 matches to go, 9 point lead and a game in hand. Nothing could possibly go wrong now ...

Just glancing at the Lewes website... how does charity shirt sponsorship work? Is it really reverse sponsorship? I guess what's good enough for Barca is good enough for Lewes!

Funnily enough there's a lot of similarities between Lewes and the mighty Barca. The charridy sponsorships are good publicity for the club (and of course the charities - one home kit, one away). Lewes attract paying sponsors in a variety of other ways - each match day has one, each stand has one per season (although I think the Philcox stand, the one next to the Rook Inn pub, is on a longer term deal). The ownership scheme raises a bit of dosh but more so the life members (who pay at least a grand).

Matchday revenue is modest but steady. Ten quid (owner or not) with concessions for students and OAPs, less for cup matches, kids always go free. Ladies games are free too, and Under 18's just 3 quid. We're getting +600 gates on Saturdays, with over a thousand for the Horsham match at New Year. We have excellent home-made pies and soups at two outlets in the ground and of course lovely Harveys served before, during and after the match at outr very own in-house pub, the Rook Inn.

Did you watch the Spend and Save Scheme video? If not I'll drop it in here. The voiceover is by Come Dine With Me's Dave Lamb, an ardent admirer of the Rooks. He's going to miss Wednesday's cup clash with Eastbourne Borough as he's at thye National Television Awards. He will, I'm assured, be following @Rookmeister 's updates via Twitter.

As you can probably tell I'm proud to be involved with a club doing so much to engage with the local community. It's a side to football I've missed out on. The big stuff is fine but I've never been a true fan, suffering vast treks across the European tundra to cheer on my distant heroes. A few cozy evenings at Old Trafford is about my lot.

Lewes may well fall short of promotion this year but frankly I don't care. So long as we're building sustainably for A future, getting local people involved and nurturing a reputation for good hospitality and attractive, attacking football I'll be happy.

The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph

Thanks for that interesting and enlightening post Sweder. Makes you think there's at least an alternative to the great greed league.

Back to nitty gritty.

Just back from a run.
31 minutes 54 seconds. Even mistier.
Looked out for Dan but failed to find his nocturnal field of dreams.
Fucking horrible it was.

I imagine a head torch is necessity around your way. But not very useful in the mist?

This one was just up to the local park and back! Blush

Don't like running at night. Never have done. Maybe if I do it loads of times I might end up liking it. Bit like eating cabbage.

Perhaps, like cabbage, running at night would be improved with the addition of bacon.

I think this thread could develop into a survey of the best post-run snack.

A bacon sarnie would be hard to beat, except for the preparation time.

You need to watch The Bedlamites and then think about organising a local night race BB. Would make for a good tale ......

Yeah, I should Wink

My post-race snack is a cup of tea and 2 oatmeal biscuits. The bacon sarnie would be nice though...

RE: Going out for a run.
It’s been a difficult week.

Splendid morning after over a month entombed in fog.
0ºC, sunny, frosty in the shade.
300m ascent up Pajariel via wide trails: 23 minutes.
Down again in less than 8 minutes. Skipped and jumped down a steep sinewy path that locals call “la puta pario” (the whore gave birth).
Ran around a bit more and then walked home in the sunshine.
1 hour running in all.

Now everything is beautiful.
Thank you MLCM. And to think that until a week ago Ray Stevens had never crossed my path.
That’s a nice jumper Ray.

Gah! Next you'll be linking to Michael Jackson's Ben and making me really vomit.

It was a nice sweater though, wasn't it?
