Music while you run
Any ideas of good little radio / cassette and headphones that are light and unobtrusive whilst running??
Thanks, Richard
(always better at thinking of Christmas pressies for myself than for others!)

Richard,

Sorry no advice on your question, but may I suggest you have a gander at mp3 players.

No moving parts so they never skip. They can be the size of a matchbox, and weigh next to nothing.

They are your Château Lafite Rothschild Pauillac 1996, whereas by comparison cassette players are more your Blue Nun Smile............err, so to speak.

This link to the Runners World Gear Forum might give you some suggestions, Richard.

I hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions....... sounds like I had better ask my children to bring up to speed on MP3 players!

MP3s are definitely the way to go, Richard. As SP says, tapes and CDs suffer from the disadvantage of moving parts, making them vulnerable... or let´s just say unsuitable, for running with. MP3 players are essentially just a small disk drive that contains digital data, a bit like a floppy disk, conceptually.

From a man-in-the-street perspective, the best ones are the Apple iPods because they are capable of storing huge amounts of digital information. I can´t recall what the mega-giga-stats are, but it amounts to several hundreds of, ahem, "LPs" (as we used to say in my youth). There are many cheaper MP3 players around of course though they´ll have smaller capacities. It´s an area where things are constantly changing, so what I´ve written is probably total rubbish by now. (Now that makes a change....)

My firm is just about to bring one on the market for £39.99. That doesn't include memory (removable xD Picture Card available currently in 16, 32, 64, 128, 256 and 512 MB). Eventually you will be able to get capacity up to 8GB - more than enough music for one of Andy's "long" runs!

After posting just now, I started to wonder what fellow forumites might listen to whilst running. When I'm running down those quiet Cotswold country lanes, I'm often heard spoiling the peace and tranquillity with a breathless karaoke rendition of "Delilah" or "Rock DJ".

So, what makes for great running music chaps? Let's hear it.

Anything by Bob Marley.

After a while I find my stride in sync with the beat!

Griff,
Do you mean 'listen to' via headphones or those lovely tunes that crop up in your head?
Personally i don't think i would like to listen to music when i run, i like to escape from trappings of normal life, especially the wife!!

Pollard - are you an Owl by any chance? I'm off to Mecca shortly for QPR v Wednesday. Used to go to Hillsborough regularly when I lived in Yorkshire and had a girlfriend in Sheffield. Early 90s.

Andy,
You speak with fork tongue.
I'm a Burnley fan actually, but i can see the Wednesday ground from my bedroom window, i used to be able to hear the roar of the match when they were in the Prem. It's a bit quiet at the moment, yes, i know they were away today, but in general its quiet.
3-0 hey! good effort.
