III 10 kms del puerto de Almería
On Sunday 19th April I took part at the race “III 10 kms Puerto de Almería”. It was a cloudy day but it didn´t rain until midday and the sun shone in the afternoon. It was a typical English day in Almería. At the esplanade I greeted some runners such as Antonio G. , Manolo F., Paul K. , who came with two neighbours from Arboleas, Felipe, Mario, Eligius who is Dutch, Fran, Guillermo, Santi, Pedro from “Antas corre” with some mates, etc. We had a good time there talking before the race. At 11 am it started. There were around 600 runners. Santi decided to keep me company and we went together all the time. The course is quite flat along the port. In the first kilometres I managed to go at a 5´30´´ pace per kilometre. We went along the fishing port and to the lighthouse. On the way, we saw the other faster runners, going back to the finish and we cheered each other when we met. I saw some runners I hadn´t seen in the start line such as Javier or Antonio L. who took part at Almería half marathon this year.

The view from the lighthouse is wonderful with the Alcazaba in the background. In the last three kilometres, a young woman called Aurora reached us so we went together and passed a few runners. In the last kilometre she got a stitch, so we slowed down a little but Santi told me to go ahead since he was running without a race number because he hadn´t managed to get one, so I went ahead in the last kilometre and was able to pass a runner in the last one hundred metres. I finished in 57 minutes 5 seconds , two minutes and a half less than last year. I met Paul K who was waiting for me at the finish line. He had done 39 minutes. There was a long queue to have a drink, but I decided not to stay here. I also met Guillermo Felipe, Mario, Fran, Antonio G., David, Simón, etc. We congratulated each other.

Before the race I was given a yellow technical T-shirt with the race number and the chip. After the race I was given a bag with a cap, a ball pen, a small notebook, a bottle of water, an apple, an orange, etc.

I felt all right and I´d like to thank Santi, who went with me all the time and made me go a little faster.

Sorry, I made a mistake. The race report is about the race in the port of Almería.

Today I took part at the Red Cross race. My head is getting worse and worse.

I´ve managed to change the title "Red Cross race" into "III 10 kms del puerto de Almería"

I'm still slightly confused about the race you did, but anyway, no matter -- very well done, Antonio. If I remember rightly it's a while since you dipped under 60 mins for a 10km, so you must be getting fitter again. I'm ashamed to say that I have still not managed a sub-60 10km. Am hovering a few seconds above it, but that will all change this year.

Good to see that PaulK is still around and taking part in the lcoal races. Great time, too.

Good work, Antonio, you must be pleased with your improved time. You seem to be having a good season so far. Do you prefer to get most of your races in during spring, before the weather gets too hot? Or do the start times just get earlier during the summer?

I was wondering if Paul was doing any races in May?

Congratulations Antonio. As EG says you seem to be in good form again.
Great stuff.

The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph

Gracias, amigos. I think this course is really good to do a PB. It´s very flat.

EG, I´m completely sure that you will manage to do a 10 km under 60 minutes. You seem to be very fit and without any injuries and good training, you can do it. Enjoy your last days in the States.

Dan, I don´t usually train much in summer because it is too hot if you don´t go very early or very late and I like resting and doing some mountain bike.

S., I hope you get better soon and can do the snake again.
