11 Weeks to Toral de los Vados 2005
As BB said, this is our FLM.
Here we go, with the second week of marathon training. In total last week was good, 66 kilometers over 6 days. This week calls for a total of 69 kilometers. There is only one fast session, which is just aswell, considering the race last Sunday.
So heres the schedule:
Monday - 6 km recovery run, at 140 bpm.
Tuesday - 8 km run at 150 bpm.
Wednesday - 3 km warm up followed by 3 X 1600m @ 185 bpm, then 3 km cool down.
Thursday - 8 km run at 150 bpm.
Friday - 16 km run at 150 bpm.
Saturday - Rest day.
Sunday - 20 km long run. To be run at 144 bpm.
Mondays session has been run, albiet a shade slower than the schedule. Although the legs felt fairly good for the session, nothing was aching, it was difficult to raise the enthusiasm, or the heart rate, so I trotted along at 130 beats per minute.
Today's 8km was fine, run at 148 bpm into a gale force wind, bright sunshine but cold as hell in the wind. The one thing about being less corpulent these days is that my hands are always cold. Never used to be the case.

Hi Brian, i didn't have time to post a message about Vig-Bay so here i go.
First of all, you qere really cute on your new socks, i will drop by the shop and take a pair for Madrid....
The race was fine, as you said considering i haven't trained at all for eleven days. I felt pretty well all the race and the most important, i recovered really well on monday. My final time was 1:29:24 alittle bit less in my watch. I will the 1:25 for the next half after a more strict trainning.
Now i am more oprimistic about Madrid marathon but i will plan a conservative race as i haven't done any long train so far, the longest was 1h:30m. I will see how it goes this week nad keep you informed of my results in Madrid.

I'm glad to hear that you felt good. I know that Rodrigo Gavela does not beleive in doing huge distances in training, so I would not be too worried. If you come in for the socks, make sure that you wash them a couple of times before wearing them, just to make sure that they are worn in a little. Regarding the race, I went a bit harder than I wanted, but still felt ok to train on Monday. Today's 1600 series were a little tougher. Perhaps I should have swapped the 16km on Friday with today's session.

See you arround...

Not too sure but it sounds like 'brain death' or possibly 'coma'.
Very sad to hear that. A guy died on the finish line at the Silverstone Half in 2003. Collapsed with massive heart failure, right on the finish line. Sometimes it's a weakness, a fault in your machinery you can't detect until it fails.
Our thoughts must go to his family.
The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph

One day everybody will have a pair of Paula socks....
Brain dead is the term. I read in the paper that the guy was admitted to hospital in 1992 with heart problems, so it wasn't wholly unexpected. There are many runners nowadays who are at risk whilst exercising, but who perceive the risks of a sedentary lifestyle to be greater. I think that there are very few runners who drop dead without knowing of some problem or other.
