First up, Cadel Evans is not Welsh. He was born in Australia's Northern Territory which means he knows how to spit, drink beer and can ride a horse. It is apparently true however that he has Welsh forefathers. This is why he's not aboriginal. If that makes sense. Never mind.
Robert Millar's article makes a lot of sense to me. I think additionally by talking about his battles with depression, Evans finally got that monkey off his back and no longer had to be defensive about being a "bit of a grumpy bastard" - now we knew why. And that seemed to free him up a bit. He even smiled (occasionally) at the end of stages (though never during). And I'm wondering how long it's been since someone won Le Tour without actually winning a stage and not grabbing the yellow until the penultimate day? Maybe Indurain did, but no-one recently I think.
BB: Kylie and Rolf are not Australians. They're poms. We disowned them decades ago and they've spent more of their life there than here, so that just proves the point. Neither of them could spit to save themselves, either!
G'man: Cate and Kathy are fabulously talented, special people. I am not worthy, but I'll change my name if you like.
I think I'll go for a run now (tempting though it is to get out the bike).
Gotta love the TdF!
