What a start. Strauss gone for a bagel, Trott jogged on after making a start, 'shakey' Cook holding firm, KP sporting a thing on his upper lip straight out of I'm A Celebrity and Doh!erty juggling & dropping on dey-boo ... all before lunch.

Sleep deprivation may be an issue over the next eight weeks ...

RE: Ashes 2010
Well this first test has been a rollewrcoaster so far and no mistake.
First Strauss gets out in the first over, then England stage an all-too-familiar batting collapse, recover by knocking over Ponting and others only for Haddin and Hussey to rub their noses in it on day three. Enter Cook and Strauss to grind the hosts to sherbert on day four and all three results are still possible going into the last day.

I'm really encouraged by England's attitude in this match. Previous tourists would have wilted after day three and they'd all be playing golf tomorrow. Aussie know they have a fight on their hands this time. If Australia win this one England will come back hard and strong. If the Aussies go down the home-based media will have a field day and it'll be pretty much all over before we're halfway through.

I'm loving it Big Grin

Here we are on day 5 and I still haven't seen a single ball... Sad

All the punters I trust said from the outset this one would be a draw and it looks likely they're right.

Great start to the series, but.
Run. Just run.

Strauss made a rare error this morning. With Cook & Trott grinding the Aussies into the Brisbane dust he should have batted on until tea, taken tea, batted on until the close, asked for the extyra half hour and batted on a bit more under the floodlights.

Letting Punter have a dart at the end lets him get some crease time and allows him to vent his anger at only taking 1 wicket in almost two days of test cricket. Apart from that I'm pretty happy with the way things turned out Wink

Jolly nice of Cookie to bag +200 on my birthday I feel.

A mildly partisan reflection on the first test here.

Bollocks! Cook did not discover Australia! Some basic history missing there. Try telling the Dutch or the French that (not to mention the Indonesians, Chinese and Polynesians) and they'll have your balls on toast, boy.

Dodgy

I assume that's the only part of the piece that you don't accept then!

Let's get this straight. The (dissaPontingly underwhelming) Australian side is made up of Cloggies, Frogs, Indos, Tiddlies and Polys not to mention a born-and-bred (rather handy-looking) Pakistani and a handful of descended British convicts? Targetting the Poms for playing the occasional (rejected) Saffa seems a tad harsh.

I guess it had to happen. Poor old Ricky Ponting.
What an ignominious end to such a distinguished career ...

Sound very much required Smile
