Nowt to do with running or footy, but my thanks go to Sweder for introducing me to this superb station.

It's not all Ace of Spades, I wouldn't listen to it if it was, and on Saturday evening, whilst Mrs SP was watching Holby/Bill/Casualty/they'reallasshiteaseachother, I spent a couple of peaceful, nay blissful hours playing backgammon online with Planet Rock to keep me company.

I listened to a superb live concert by The legendary Neil Young; him of the the most amazing, hauntingly emotional voice.

Which set me up extremely well for a good run on Sunday. By my reckoning if Sweder and I had bothered to squint into the distance, we could have waved at each other as my run again took me back over the Downs behind Denton and towards Firle Beacon.

Being an off-road virgin, the ankle is not good this morning, but I still intend to go for a 2 mile recovery run with Mrs SP later today.

Dangerous portents, SP: Planet Rock, offroad running . . . all rather disturbing really. Have you checked your back garden for large, open pods lately . . . ?

Seriously, we should plan a plod this weekend on the old Brighton route.

http://www.planetrock.com - it's a digital station, so you can pick it up on line, via a DAB radio or Satelite TV - no FM equivalent, sadly. Their latest aquisition is one (little) Nicky Horne, on from 10 till noon.

Great picture of you at Tower Bridge in that earlier post, Sweder.

An impressive doppler effect is captured in your image too, making you appear in the deep blue end of the visible spectrum whilst the other competitors, and indeed the bridge itself, are shown in mere monochrome.

By my reckoning, the relativistic implications of such near light-speed travel would imply an error of approximately 7 additional minutes on your officially recorded time.

No doubt that's what you were talking about in Almería when you were referring to the space (-time discontinuity) problem in Lewes.

Either that or perhaps you've converted from testing Guinness to featuring in the latest line of adverts for Gordons' gin.

There's no doubt Gordons Gin features in this thread, Nige, but I suggest it might be you who's been getting a little too close to that particular thirst-quencher

The blue effect you refer to is in fact the result of the superb temperature-control Ice Vest I purchased in Hong Kong. I cocked up the settings a little, resulting in a dramatic drop in core body heat. Happily by the finish I'd reajusted, and returned to my usual Lobster-red hue.

A most unwelcome and heavy summer cold has intervened, hence no running (and no running posts) for some days. There's an unbearable unpleasantness in gazing out of the window, chest wheezing, nose dripping, as the best weather of the year slides in from the West, bathing your usual playground in the most magical sunlight.

There's enough in the tank to get me round Seaford but if I'm not breathing clearly by Wednesday I'm a non-starter for Sunday's race.

Sweder - I must report a worrying development.

I've started listening to Planet Rock. On the odd occasion, like. Ahem.

But I was wondering what you use to listen to while on your runs? I presume you have a portable digital radio? I've had bad reports of the couple that friends have tried out.

Ah, Brother Andy, beware the lure of Little Nicky Horne . . .
Yes, I use a portable digital radio. The best for the past year has been the Roberts RD-4. A little bulky (about the size/ weight of a Blackberry) but it fits perfectly into the zip pocket on my Nathan water belt and has a signal lock button to keep you tuned in/ stop unplanned volume adjustments caused by erratic plodding/ occasional hand-banging.

I reckon some of the tunes on there'll get your speed up. Clinical trials (OK, me plodding about) have shown consistently faster circuit times with PR than without.

Whilst I'm here I should report/ confess I have no plans to run Seaford Half tomorrow. My chest is cleared up but I spent a couple of hours in the smoky, alcoholic company of Girlschool at the Mean Fiddler last night; a great leap back in time for me, not so hot for immediate running prospects.

To cap that I'm planning an evening of Guinness testing in Lewes in the inestimable company of SP and Tim G tonight.
