On Sunday 19th April I took part at the race III 10 kms Puerto de Almería. It was a cloudy day but it didn´t rain until midday and the sun shone in the afternoon. It was a typical English day in Almería. At the esplanade I greeted some runners such as Antonio G. , Manolo F., Paul K. , who came with two neighbours from Arboleas, Felipe, Mario, Eligius who is Dutch, Fran, Guillermo, Santi, Pedro from Antas corre with some mates, etc. We had a good time there talking before the race. At 11 am it started. There were around 600 runners. Santi decided to keep me company and we went together all the time. The course is quite flat along the port. In the first kilometres I managed to go at a 5´30´´ pace per kilometre. We went along the fishing port and to the lighthouse. On the way, we saw the other faster runners, going back to the finish and we cheered each other when we met. I saw some runners I hadn´t seen in the start line such as Javier or Antonio L. who took part at Almería half marathon this year.
The view from the lighthouse is wonderful with the Alcazaba in the background. In the last three kilometres, a young woman called Aurora reached us so we went together and passed a few runners. In the last kilometre she got a stitch, so we slowed down a little but Santi told me to go ahead since he was running without a race number because he hadn´t managed to get one, so I went ahead in the last kilometre and was able to pass a runner in the last one hundred metres. I finished in 57 minutes 5 seconds , two minutes and a half less than last year. I met Paul K who was waiting for me at the finish line. He had done 39 minutes. There was a long queue to have a drink, but I decided not to stay here. I also met Guillermo Felipe, Mario, Fran, Antonio G., David, Simón, etc. We congratulated each other.
Before the race I was given a yellow technical T-shirt with the race number and the chip. After the race I was given a bag with a cap, a ball pen, a small notebook, a bottle of water, an apple, an orange, etc.
I felt all right and I´d like to thank Santi, who went with me all the time and made me go a little faster.
