RE: Why oh why July?
Well then.

It appears to be the season for running injuries, and I have one to report, though it belongeth not to me, gentle viewer. No, I regret to inform that Mrs MLCMM has had an altercation with a vicious tree root whilst out on a run which resulted in the tree shrugging off a small graze whilst Mrs MLCMM unfortunately returned home with a badly busted humerus, which seems a completely inappropriate name for a bone when it is painfully broken.

A trip to the ivory-towered orthopaedic surgeon today resulted in mixed blessings - thankfully no surgery required, but full recovery will take 3 - 6 months! Needless to say, nor will there be any running for her for a few weeks yet. I may have to step into the breech and complete her runs (and maybe even mine) for her.

Indeed, a proper return to proper running for myself is well overdue, despite the wonderful delaying tactics and convenient excuses that the World Cup, Tour de France and Wimbledon have thoughtfully provided. Apart from rapidly disappearing excuses, the other really good news for me is that after this current batch of night shifts, I have ten whole weeks free of the beasts, and thus a chance to recover from sleep deprivation and a serious return to some semblance of a training programme.

The big question is whether there is sufficient time to recover my training sufficiently for the Sydney marathon in September. I have to say at this stage it's looking unlikely, but we'll see what the next two or three weeks brings. The priority however is regaining my own health (which largely revolves around regaining a useful sleep pattern) and nursing my better half back to full health.

Interesting times, indeed.
