Urgent Advice Sought
It has been along time since I logged on to the forum I do apologise!

The reason I have come in from the cold literally is that I have developed a really frustrating niggle in either the achilles tendon or the muscle alongside it in the back of my right leg.

The frustrating and annoying thing about it is I was just beginning to real feel I was getting somewhere and had completed 18 miles last Monday.

The history of the ache, pull, tear is as follows. I am following the runners world sub 3.45 marathon program and as mention completed 18 miles in 2.20. on Monday in a relative new pair of trainers.

Feeling good after arest day I then pulled on an old pair of off road trainers and completed a 10 mile run on Wednesday.

On my return I had the fore mentioned ache.

I then iced and rested it for 2 days to see if it would recover to no avail tried it out on saturday ached rested it completed a 5 mile on Monday ached afterward.

Tuesday I had a massage felt good ran this evening nice easy 7.15 pace managed 2 miles then the bugger flaired up again.

Any suggestions bearing in mind have a place in the Winchester 10k on Sunday ( suggested by RW) Fleet half coming up and the London which I want to do well in .

Please help

A desperate Plodder

can be real buggers. Really I would think you need to see a good sports physio to get it diagnosed properly and to get a sensible recovery program in place.

Given the miles you're putting in, you want, at all costs, to avoid the possibility of a rupture, so getting it checked out by a professional would be wise. I'd certainly be very wary of racing on it until it's properly sussed out.

Let's hope it's just a muscle strain. Best of luck.
Run. Just run.

Yes I agree

Get it checked out by a sports injury specialist. I had something similar which turned out to be scar tissue. But the only way I was rid of it was through ultrasound from a sports injury clinic.

These guys know what they're doing and you still have time to recover before London. I was only out of action for a week myself.

Good Luck

Ditto above.

Questions though.
You have to ask why it occurred in the first place. Knowing that should stop it returning later.

Have you upped the mileage or the pace significantly recently?

Have you changed terrein recently?

Are the new shoes the same model as your old ones, and did you have problems with the oldens?

Thanks for the questions.

No they aren't the same model. But the injury occured while I completed the same length run in the old trainers as I had completed a few weeks prior.

The mileage I have been doing has gone up gradually though.
