Welcome Avenger.

On a tour of the Old Trafford changing rooms some years ago I was amazed to find the fridges stuffed with Jaffa cakes. Apparently they're amongst the fastest foods for a hungry body to absorb.

The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph

Well done Avenging Hillman on the JSJ and welcome to the forum.

What time did you run yesterday so that we can try and work out who you are??

See you at Beachy Head.

Thanks for the welcome.

Just under 2:45, I think.
2:44:58 perhaps.

After yesterday, I'm trying to work out who I am too!!Smile

Am pleased with result, as almost a minute better than previous time.

Was quite warm throughout the race- hard to know whether that helps or hinders- some warmth is ok for the legs, I find, but hard on the cooling system.

See you at BH.

Well done to all the finishers!

I heard about quarter of those that entered either didn't turn up or dropped out. Another victim of the hills was my bike, the V caused my chain to snap!

The lovely marshalls from Lewes AC had a go at fixing the chain, but it snapped again! They ended up driving me back to the marina.Smile

Well done Hillman

I must have seen you whizz by as we where handing out the drinks when you got to the last drink station.

Also a big well done to all the others that took part.
Judging by the thirst of all, it was a race to be proud of finishing. Big Grin

I'm very impressed with your cycling skills if you managed to cycle even part way up the "V".

Think the lead bike could be a job for you next year - do you agree??:RFLMAO:

I wasn't too far up the V when the chain went!Big Grin

I was with the lead bike towards the beginning of the race, then was given the easy option to do the sweep at a more relaxed pace which I took!

Hi Simon Ho.
Breaking a chain going up the big V is certainly good going.
You must be some strong cyclist!
I shudder to think how fast you'd go down it!Smile

There's my piccy- trying to look sensible in a silly hat!
Yes ladyrunner. One of the boys in blue.

Hi msilv- thanks for the drinkies- guess you got through a lot of water.
Gillybean- said hello before the race start, I think.
Recovered yet?
I find that apple crumble helps, at this stageSmile

I'm very impressed by these times - HA congrats on a PB, and Ladyrunner you cruised under three hours. Based on my one and only attempt I have to find 20 minutes to get close Eek At least the maths is easy enough - just the minute per mile to knock off then :o

Simon you're a brave man for attempting to cycle the V. If your chain hadn't gone then you would surely have ruptured a tyre - or worse Eek I take it there was no sweeper bike in the end. I waited at Castle Hill until 12 noon - that's three hours after race start - but with no bike and no runners appearing on the horizon I shuffled off.

If anyone locates photos from the race please do post them here.
I didn't take my camera - far too tricky trying operating the thing with suntan lotion all over your hands Rolleyes Big Grin

Going back 3 months to when we ran Three Forts I probably would have run between 3:20-30 for JSJ.

It's amazing what improvement you can make from regular long training runsSmileSmile.

OK GB. It's in the post.
Oh yes, the hat- it's use is restricted to foreign shores.

Speaking of things of the head, I think I've got a problem with my computer, because, ladyrunner, your hair is coming out pink on my monitor :RFLMAO:

Anyway, pink hair or not, that's some improvement in your times.
Ready for BH then? Sub 4 hour?

Thanks AH - yes it is a big improvement in my times.

Sub 4 hours is the aim for BH but I think that it is going to be a tough one to beat. My best for BH is 3:53.

What's you aim then sub 3:30-40?? Have you run a marathon before?

My hair will be tied back on the day and definately no wigs!!!Big GrinBig Grin

Have run 5, ladyrunner- all off-road

(Damn, was eating toast over my laptop earlier and got a crumb caught under the full stop!
....almost fixed it, but still temperamental!)

3.53- well done!

Am aiming for just under 3.50 (dream....), as ran in just over that last year, but feeling ok at the moment, but you never know, do you.......
Weather-permitting. I've heard of people doing that one in the snow!

That guy that came first at BH last year and 3 Forts is an amazing runner- don't know how he does it. Miles ahead (literally, I think) of everyone.

Some of these off-road ones are pretty difficult, aren't they?

I wonder which is the hardest- Stinger, 3 Forts or Beachy Head.
Seem to be mixed opinions amongst runners- but I reckon the Stinger is the worst as it's really muddy along the bottom of the Downs on the first part of the run, since it's in the woods, which tires you out for the rest of it.

I see Digimoments have their pictures up Sweder.

Cheers AH. I really enjoyed the Steyning Stinger (ran it last year in the most foul conditions - terrific fun).
Never entered BH and only did the half at Three Forts so can't compare them. Moyleman's done them all within the last two years so he's the man to ask.

My Stinger time was a lowly 4.26 but there again I'm a big fellow and it was a training run :o

Ran 3:38 for the old Stinger Marathon (Chanctonbury) in 1992. Jogged round in a big group of Jog Shop Joggers with Sam Lambourne. When I did it in the early 2000's it was extremely muddy under Chanctonbury Ring, but I still think that Beachy Head is the most challenging with those 8 hills starting at 20 miles.

Have only run 3-forts half marathon so I can't really compare that one - but didn't find it too bad, apart from me being terribly unfit - do you remember Sweder (my come back raceRolleyes).

Have seen the Digimoment photos - they are very good - especially some of the guys from blue vest gang.

It looks like I'm wearing a blond/brown wig for the run - will definately tie my hair back for beachy head or even better get a hat!! Can I borrow yours AH :RFLMAO::RFLMAO:?

Oh yes, I remember it well . . .

I could use a little of your new-found bounce and pace there LR. My old legs are creaking this morning after yesterday's hilly hard-top 14K . . . lots of work needed here. You've come back to form quickly but there again you used to be quick. I've never been quick so my aspirations are somewhat tempered Big Grin

My belated running career has been like a lot of good marathon advice.
Start slow, get slower :RFLMAO:

As for hats, can't use 'em.
They play havoc with my solar panel Big Grin

Well Sweder, if you're talking about the 2007 Stinger- I did the half and the weather was unbelievable!
It was blowing a gale coming up to Chanctonbury with hard rain in the face.
I remember thinking that I couldn't even imagine doing the full one on that day.
Well done on your 4:26- particularly with the swamp-like conditions.
I spoke to one guy from a London club later on- said he got hypothermia on that day!

And ladyrunner- 3:38! Were you drinking jet fuel?Big Grin
So you like my hat then? :RFLMAO:
